The opportunity presented by Virtual Private Networking technology is indisputable. Achieving cost-effective and secure business communications with worldwide communities of interest will improve your company’s ability to compete. With any opportunity comes challenge, however. SmartGate VPN from V-ONE is designed to address the most demanding challenges of deploying and managing Virtual Private Networks.
SmartPass Client - installs on a remote user’s desktop to provide VPN connection services to the SmartGate server. It manages user authentication by interfacing with a variety of tokens, including V-ONE’s integrated digital token. Successful authentication initiates a DES or 3DES encrypted data session with the SmartGate server.
SmartGate Server – integrates into the Internet perimeter security environment. It manages authentication token deployment and registration, session authentication, user connection privileges to network applications, and event logging. The SmartGate server has an integrated user database or interfaces with third-party authentication systems.

SmartGate supports an array of authentication systems and tokens. This includes a SmartGate-integrated user database and digital token system featuring:
Easy-to-deploy, software-based means of identifying authorized users
Two-way (mutual) authentication between the remote user and the application
Flexibility for storing digital tokens on a hard drive, floppy disk or smart card
SmartGate also supports authentication systems such as Security Dynamics ACE/Server and SecurID, Entrust/PKI™, and RADIUS.
SmartGate 3DES encryption support can be used in any country not embargoed by the U.S. State Department and for any application. V-ONE’s unique Trusted First Party™ (TFP) key recovery approach ensures that customers control their own encryption keys, minimizing unnecessary cost and risk factors. SmartGate with TFP key recovery has the broadest export approval granted by the U.S. Department of Commerce for strong encryption (greater than 56-bit key length).
SmartGate features SmartAdmin™, a Windows-based VPN management console that enables secure, remote administration of multiple SmartGate servers. SmartAdmin’s database functionality allows SmartGate administrators to achieve maximum productivity when managing large VPN user populations. SmartAdmin provides a distributed user management model by assigning multiple levels of policy update privileges to group administrators.
