How it Works

The three types of VPN include site-to-site, remote access, and a combination of both. All of our site solutions include a hardware-based firewall at no extra cost. We can also provide Internet access from several different providers. We are not a conventional connectivity provider, but offer the services of industry leading access companies for the convenience of our VPN customers.

Site-to-Site VPN

Purpose:

To connect two or more sites using encryption and the Internet
To protect the resources at each site with a stateful packet inspection firewall

Requirements at each site:

"Always On" connectivity to the Internet, including xDSL, Cable, Wireless, Static ISDN, Fractional T1, T1, T3.
One unused publicly available static IP Address

What we provide:

A small VPN / firewall device at each location

Remote Access VPN

Purpose:

One unused publicly available static IP Address

Remote user requirements:

A Windows PC with Internet connectivity

IPSec software client for Windows 9x, NT 4.0
Access to the FirstVPN Concentrators

Why use this system?
By using the best of breed software and equipment for each specific application, you receive the benefit of the lowest cost, highest performance VPN solution. Brief description of the remote access connection process
The VPN Client works with our servers to create a secure connection, called a tunnel, between your computer and the private network. Just like the site-to-site model, we install a VPN server at your central site and in addition, a software client on your remote computer.

To use your remote computer to read your company Email, you connect to the Internet, then start the VPN Client and establish a secure connection through the FirstVPN concentrator to your company's private network.

When you open your Email, the VPN concentrator uses IPSec to encrypt the message, transmit it through the tunnel to your VPN Client, which decrypts the message so you can read it on your PC. If you reply to the Email message, the VPN Client returns the message through the FirstVPN Concentrator to the VPN server at your site.
